29 Apr 2026EnvironmentangryLabour promised to ban trophy hunting imports in 2024 - breaking this would be a brutal betrayal. With every delay this cruel trade continues & endangered animals are killed for sport. I’ve written to the Government demanding they include a bill to ban trophy hunting imports in the King’s Speech.
28 Apr 2026Technology & DigitalmeasuredFrom hearing how Bath’s universities & colleges are working together to protect students from online harm & abuse, to calling for the Government to support local businesses - this past week I've been standing up for the issues that matter to you. Here's a snapshot of what else I've been up to.👇📸
28 Apr 2026Technology & DigitalcelebratoryGreat to visit @uniofbath.bsky.social last week & learn about the University’s leading research into online safety, including tackling radicalisation & technology-led harm. Encouraging to see this supported by partnership across Bath’s institutions working to keep students safe - online & offline.
28 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredGood to discuss the Nuclear Roadmap with Lord Vallance at the Energy Security & Net Zero Committee. I asked whether the UK National Nuclear Laboratory’s public corporation model is sustainable for building our nuclear industry & delivering Govt priorities, given its reliance on commercial revenue.👇
28 Apr 2026Technology & DigitalangryOur Government is dithering & delaying while children continue to be put in danger on social media. While they launch their consultation, other countries like Australia have taken decisive action. Now is not the time for talk. The Government must take urgent action to protect children online.
28 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredLast night I attended ADE: Heat Networks' Parliamentary Reception, which brought together MPs & clean heat industry leaders. Decarbonising heating is vital to reaching net zero - it was great to discuss the role of heat networks in delivering a future of low-carbon, affordable heating for all.
27 Apr 2026Technology & DigitalmeasuredWhile many parents discuss online safety with their children, few cover the dangers of sharing personal data online. Switched on to privacy is a campaign helping parents of 4–11 year olds have these conversations about online privacy. Its resources make this simple, relatable & doable. Learn more👇
27 Apr 2026Health & NHSempatheticI'm deeply disappointed the assisted dying bill has fallen. Alongside Dignity in Dying campaigners & fellow MPs, I’m urging the Government to give this important issue more time in the next parliamentary session. Those who are terminally ill deserve dignity & compassion at the end of their lives.
27 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryI was very proud to hear that the Bath Abbey Girls’ Choir were invited to sing at Westminster Abbey. They’re such wonderful ambassadors for our city’s musical talent. So pleased that they visited Parliament while in London - their enthusiasm & eagerness to learn about politics were inspiring!
25 Apr 2026Defence & SecurityangryTrump is an aggressive bully on the world stage. NATO is a defence alliance. This is why EU countries and the UK have not supported US aggressive acts of war against Iran. Trump might be furious but he cannot use NATO for his own belligerent agenda.
24 Apr 2026Defence & SecurityempatheticWhile visiting the @uniofbath.bsky.social, I was also given a tour of the Disappearance exhibition by Chantal Meza, highlighting the human tragedy of people missing due to conflict and violence. A powerful and thought-provoking reminder of the personal cost behind global conflict & crises.
24 Apr 2026EducationmeasuredToday I attended a roundtable on student safety hosted by @uniofbath.bsky.social with the city's universities & colleges. We discussed the growing challenge of tech-facilitated abuse & online harms. Bath institutions are leading the way in working together to support & protect students.
24 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredIt's right that bills get proper scrutiny in Parliament. But this is about a small number of opponents in the House of Lords wilfully running the clock down on the assisted dying bill. A bill the Commons has backed. The Government must give this bill more time in the next parliamentary session.
24 Apr 2026Defence & SecurityangryTrump casting doubt on UK sovereignty over the Falklands is outrageous. The King's US state visit should be pulled - this unreliable President cannot keep insulting our country. Kemi Badenoch & Nigel Farage should stop sucking up to Trump and start standing up to him.
24 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryAt a time when solidarity and connecting with our European neighbours has never been more important, I am looking forward to contributing to this Bath Festivals event Europe: Where Do We Go From Here? alongside Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland and former FT columnist and author Stefan Stern.
24 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredIt was great to hear how Stansted Airport is working to achieve net zero operations by 2038. This includes developing an onsite solar farm to help power the airport with 100% renewable electricity, alongside using more sustainable aviation fuel. It’s vital we keep pushing to decarbonise aviation.✈️
23 Apr 2026Cost of LivingangryTrump’s reckless war is piling pressure on people already hit by a brutal cost-of-living crisis. Fuel, mortgages & energy bills are soaring while Reform & the Conservatives cheer him on. Only we @libdems.org.uk have a real plan to tackle Trumpflation and cut costs for UK families.
23 Apr 2026Tax & Public FinancesangryThis month’s business rates hike will hit our high streets with more crippling costs. Enough is enough. The Government must cut VAT for hospitality by 5% & deliver the 20p discount in business rates it promised retail, hospitality & leisure businesses, or risk losing our high streets altogether.
23 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredFrom calling for more to be done to tackle the rise of shoplifting in Bath, to gathering my constituents' views on social media and how we should protect children - this past week I've been standing up for the issues that matter to you. Here's a snapshot of what else I've been up to.📸👇
22 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryCelebrating on the eve of Shakespeare’s birthday not only the nation’s most famous author but also the wonderful work of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. The Trust allows us today to walk in the footsteps of Shakespeare and be immersed in the place that shaped and inspired so much of his writing.
22 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThe assisted dying bill is set to fall - not for lack of support, but because opponents in the Lords are blocking it. Defying the will of Parliament & the public. I joined MPs & campaigners at Downing Street to demand the Government give the issue the time it deserves next Parliamentary session.
22 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentangryHe appointed Peter Mandelson as US ambassador despite his links to Epstein. He tried to appoint Matthew Doyle, another man with a known friendship with a sex offender, to a diplomatic role. The Starmer scandals just keep getting worse. It's time for the prime minister to go.
22 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryI had a lovely moment this morning putting a few stitches into a section of the Bayeux Tapestry. Its historic loan to the UK is extraordinary. Great to see The British Museum leading a fantastic nationwide programme to bring the story of the tapestry to communities across the UK.
22 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryI am deeply proud that Bath is a double inscribed World Heritage Site. It's truly an amazing city. It was great to meet with the World Heritage Sites All-Party Parliamentary Group to discuss the future of our world heritage sites, including whether a national strategy is needed.
21 Apr 2026Jobs & EmploymentmeasuredEarlier I met with the Electrical Contractors’ Association to discuss the decline in people starting electrical apprenticeships - which has fallen 5.5%. Our drive to decarbonise Britain relies on skilled electricians. We must reverse this trend to keep building the workforce needed for the future.
21 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredToday I laid a wreath at the Cenotaph to commemorate the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. A solemn moment to remember, reflect and honour those who lost their lives.
21 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredYesterday in Parliament I held a roundtable on eating disorders in schools. In the last decade, the number of children receiving treatment has more than doubled. This is a national crisis. Great to hear from experts & those with lived experience on how better education & training can tackle this.
21 Apr 2026EducationcelebratoryWe @libdems.org.uk have long called for a ban on mobile phones in schools - guidance alone was never enough. The Government has been forced to listen. This must now be backed with proper funding & support, so every classroom can become phone-free to truly protect children’s learning.
20 Apr 2026ImmigrationmeasuredReform are chasing headlines; they're not serious about fixing our asylum system. The backlog is already huge & re-opening 5 years of cases will make it worse. We @libdems.org.uk are committed to actually tackling this by urging the Government to open Nightingale centres to clear the backlog.
20 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentangryStarmer cannot just sack his civil servant to save himself. He didn’t meet Peter Mandelson before the appointment, & now it seems he didn’t even check whether security vetting had been passed. The prime minister has shown catastrophically poor judgement & endangered national security. He must go.
