18 May 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredI've written to Shabana Mahmood to ensure that anyone who broke the law at weekend is prosecuted, the same as they should be in any demonstration that incites violence. A difference of opinion is one thing, but what we saw at weekend went beyond that

18 May 2026MP & ParliamentangryKemi Badenoch wants to ban pro-Palestine marches over Gaza, but defends Tommy Robinson’s “Unite the Kingdom” marches despite anti-Muslim abuse, hate-crime arrests and assaults on police. That is not principle. It is rank hypocrisy.
15 May 2026TransportcelebratoryFor years I have campaigned for better transport links for Bolton. Today’s confirmation of the Northern Powerhouse Rail Bill and Great British Railways is a major step forward. I will keep pushing to ensure Bolton and Salford get the full benefit of these vital reforms.
14 May 2026Health & NHScelebratoryI welcome the NHS Modernisation Bill announced in the King’s Speech. Here in Bolton South and Walkden, waiting lists have already fallen by over 7,000 with 25,000 extra appointments delivered. This Bill will help secure that progress and go further for patients.
13 May 2026Health & NHSempatheticThis week is Mental Health Awareness Week. I used to volunteer with the Samaritans. The same people would ring again & again, just wanting someone to listen. That is still what so many people need. Check in on someone today. If you need help: call Samaritans 116 123, 24/7 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
8 May 2026Culture & Communitymeasured80 years ago today, Nazi Germany surrendered and the war in Europe ended. On VE Day, we honour all those who gave so much for our freedom. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🌹
30 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryAt the last General Election, we promised change for this country and we're delivering on that promise.
30 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryThey said Labour wouldn't make a difference. Here's what's happened in just over a year. 👇 Real change. Real results. For Bolton South and Walkden. And after the King's Speech on 13th May? We keep going 💪 Share this with someone who needs to see it. #BoltonSouth #Walkden #Labour #LabourGovernment
28 Apr 2026Jobs & EmploymentmeasuredToday I, along with colleagues across the Trade Union movement, pay tribute to the memory of all of those killed at work. Health and safety legislation is unfortunately often written in blood, and we need to continue to strengthen protections for workers in all industries #IWMD26
23 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredYesterday I co-chaired a panel on NHS dentistry with the Nuffield Trust. Nearly 14 million adults in England can't access an NHS dentist. People are forced to choose between expensive private care or DIY dentistry. This is a crisis in fairness & funding. We need real investment & a sustainable model
23 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryWishing everyone a Happy St George's Day! Our flag belongs to all of us, & its a signal of pride for us all, in our town centres, at our football grounds or being flown by people proud of their country. It is not and will never be a symbol of division, no matter what some people do whilst flying it.
14 Apr 2026Defence & SecurityangryAn illegal, immoral war of choice - I said so in Parliament. Iran's enrichment deal was close, yet Israel and the US bombed Iran. Bombing of South Lebanon and Beirut continues, displacing millions and wrecking negotiations. This cannot go on. I asked the Prime Minister to act. .
13 Apr 2026EducationcelebratoryGreat to meet the team at Channel 4 last week! Hearing about opportunities coming to Bolton South & Walkden was brilliant, including Aaliah from Bolton, now thriving in their Public Affairs team after starting as an apprentice. More news for local schools & colleges soon! 🎬
9 Apr 2026OthermeasuredGreat news: the Government is consulting on firework noise limits. I introduced my Fireworks (Noise Control) Bill in December for exactly this reason, to protect veterans, children with sensory needs, pets and communities. We need action, not just consultation. www.politicshome.com/news/article...
7 Apr 2026Jobs & EmploymentcelebratoryAnd thats not all. The two-child limit has been scrapped. Millions of pensioners are better off. Reform, the Conservatives and the Greens voted against every bit of it. When someone asks what Labour are doing, tell them - we are getting on with making lives better
7 Apr 2026Jobs & EmploymentcelebratoryAfter 14 years of stagnating pay and insecure work, Labour is turning the page. The Employment Rights Act is now law: guaranteed hours, day one sick pay, stronger protections against fire and rehire, and more power for trade unions.
2 Apr 2026EducationmeasuredSchool libraries are for opening minds, not closing them. I've written to the DfE demanding answers about how this happened and what the Department will do to protect young people's access to books. www.yasminqureshi.org.uk/news/2026/04...
2 Apr 2026EducationangryNearly 200 books removed from a school library in my constituency, including We Should All Be Feminists and Pageboy. One headteacher's personal preference became institutional censorship. A qualified librarian did her job and was forced out.
1 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredFollow this account for updates from inside the committee room, including the amendments I table and how the discussions develop. I want this process to be transparent and accessible so that everyone can see how these decisions are made. Justice works best when people are informed and engaged.
1 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredThe committee's next sitting is on 14th April. I'm currently reviewing submitted evidence and meeting with groups like the Bar Council and victims' charities before deciding on the next steps in the committee
1 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredThe committee works in 3 stages: evidence sessions with experts and campaigners, line-by-line scrutiny of every clause, and amendment votes, with each recorded permanently as public record.
1 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredA Public Bill Committee is a small group of MPs chosen to go through a bill line by line : questioning, challenging, and tabling amendments. Every word can be tested. Every rejection goes on the public record.
1 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredI have been appointed to the Public Bill Committee examining the Courts and Tribunals Bill, which includes proposals that would change how jury trials operate for a range of criminal offences. I want to explain what this means and how I will be approaching the work ahead.
31 Mar 2026Cost of Livingmeasured Find out more here: www.yasminqureshi.org.uk/news/2026/03...
31 Mar 2026Cost of LivingcelebratoryFrom April, the Government is putting more money in your pocket to help with the cost of living. Real practical changes, not slogans and gimmicks. Around £150 off energy costs, 4% pay rise for millions of workers and more free childcare so parents aren't punished for going back into work.
31 Mar 2026EducationcelebratoryBrilliant news! Salford is 5th in England for social mobility, Greater Manchester 6th. HEPI's Social Mobility Index measures access, continuation and graduate outcomes for students from most deprived backgrounds, beyond beyond grades www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/2597061...
