23 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryYesterday morning Somerset Councillor Ros Wyke and I met Wales & West Utilities about their proposed closure of the A371 Cheddar to Wells road for the 6 weeks of the summer holiday. We explained the business catastrophes which would unfold with such timing. Great that they have agreed to postpone!
20 May 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryPleased to co-sign this letter to challenge this unacceptable situation. We shouldn’t be denied these opportunities to all see English soccer teams gain Euro-glory. Go Villa!
17 May 2026Health & NHSempatheticThinking of the #ME community this #BlueSunday, especially those who are struggling to participate or for whom it brings painful memories. You are not forgotten.
14 May 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThank you to those who have pointed me to the HERITAGE research study: shorturl.at/K9kWU. Good to see commitments to establish best practice health care for #pwME and look at economic issues. Disappointing that it was only starting in January 2026.
13 May 2026Health & NHSmeasured‘…there is more to do, and this must be only a start to the significant investment in ME/CFS research that is so desperately needed….’ Government must show greater ambition in investing in this U.K. world-leading research to bring treatments for the scourges of ME and LC that cost us all so much.
13 May 2026Health & NHSmeasuredCongrats to all involved in securing this critical funding! However, I understand that it is only sufficient for the next phase with a further £15m needed for all that is envisaged. SequenceME is reliant on charities and personal donations to fundraise for this. Sonya Chowdhury called it well…
13 May 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThank you, Carole. I’m not aware of the Heritage study. Could you please help me track it down. We have been working with a figure for ME alone of £22billion+ based on extrapolations. On this basis your contention is even stronger. An issue of such magnitude really must be sorted.
12 May 2026Health & NHSempatheticI’m so aware that #WorldMEDay is painful for many, bringing home how tough it is to have #ME, and the seeming lack of progress. Please be reassured that many of us in Parliament do care, and are working at bringing about meaningful change. Change is inevitably slow, but I’m really encouraged.
4 May 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryI had great fun at #yattfest this weekend. Lovely to speak to so many people, meeting Mike and Zoe from Avon & Somerset Police; serving cider with Tom and Henry in the Thatchers’ box; and helping the team in the Strawberry Line Café & Community Cycle Hire tent. Congratulations to the organisers!

22 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredI was delighted to have the opportunity to highlight the government’s continued poor treatment of the Chinook families in PMQs today and to hear the PM commit to a meeting. The Chinook should never have flown. The MoD needs to face up to this and treat the families with decency. #ChinookJustice

10 Apr 2026Health & NHSangryInitial results from the Big Survey of >5000 pwME are deeply disturbing… disbelief by NHS healthcare professionals, made to feel their ME was their fault, traumatic encounters with clinicians. This can not continue. More on 11 May👇🏽. Thanks @kacheston.bsky.social and @actionforme.bsky.social.
2 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThank you to everyone who joined or hosted @timfarron.bsky.social and I during his visit to Somerset. Thank you too for sharing your ideas and asking such good questions about the environment and the importance of investing in, and protecting, our rural communities.
30 Mar 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThank you to all those who attended our first 'Women in Business Brunch' at Blossoms Café in Wells on Friday morning. It was fantastic to spend time with so many business, charity leaders and entrepreneurs. Thanks also to @sarahgibsonmp.bsky.social for sharing her experience and insights.
