30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

Are there any frustrations? Are there things that we are pushing for and just cannot get?

30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

I do sometimes wonder whether, when there are those frustrations, we do not wish that we had a bit more of a bilateral budget in some of those relationships.

Anouschka, you said that the public has an exaggerated view of aid, and many think it is 10 times more than it actually is. What is their view of the direction of travel? What is the awareness that the current Government have cut international aid significantly?

30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

My question is about the size of the organisations. We often find that smaller organisations are saying that they struggle to get the finance. What is the FCDO doing to address that problem?

30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

Moving the conversation on to the use of multilaterals, we have heard evidence that they can play a crucial role in aggregating climate investments. We have also heard that they can be overly bureaucratic, very centralised and sometimes unresponsive to local needs. How will you ensure that what we are spending through

30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

Is there a concerted effort by the UK and allies to do that? How does that work? Do we as the United Kingdom engage with like-minded countries and then take a joint approach to the multilaterals? Can you talk to us about how that works?

30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

It is not just smaller organisations and local communities. Women and girls and other marginalised groups face particular barriers to accessing climate finance. What is the FCDO doing to make sure that they are not excluded?

30 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 206)

To an extent, the UK’s influence depends on the changing shape of alliances, particularly with other European countries. Is there a mechanism for scrutiny and oversight from the UK’s perspective to ensure that the finance is reaching the people most in need?

Yes, as Trump’s Administration has shown.

15 Jun 2026NHS Dentistry

I broadly agree with the hon. Gentleman’s list of demands. I wonder whether he could offer advice, based on the Liberal Democrats’ five years in government, on lessons learned about the NHS contract and its reform.

Does my hon. Friend agree that this is a massive cost of living pressure for people who cannot afford a dentist, and that it would probably be worth our putting in the investment to ensure everyone can have an NHS dentist?

I would like to see that change, and I urge the Minister not to delay the consultation on new proposals on the contract. However, in addition to bringing about reform, we need to return funding levels to where they were in 2010. I recently met dentists from across Durham, including one of the chief negotiators for the

It is now 9.20 pm, and I have waited all day to be able to say what I am going to say—in three minutes. I cannot give the speech that I wanted to give, but I had to come to speak up on behalf of my constituents, particularly the patients at the West Auckland dental practice who have just been told that they can no long

The hon. Member is making an excellent point, and I suspect that the ICB in that situation is finding that its budget is overstretched. On that basis, and in the spirit of not being partisan, would she welcome the investment that this Government are putting into the NHS, which the Liberal Democrats oppose?

When something like that happens, is there an investigation? Is the official position that this was a rogue IDF soldier not following orders? Or is there no consequence?

28
9 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 156)

Sure. I emphasise “brief”, because we have quite a lot of questions that will go into some of the details. We are really just looking for an overview the direction of travel and the recent developments in the West Bank.

Could you give us a sense of the scale of that sort of double displacement of refugees moving on from Lebanon to Syria?

23
9 Jun 2026International Development Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 156)

Yes, let’s do that. Will you introduce yourself, Itay? I am just conscious that quite a lot of the questions will get into the nitty-gritty, and we will end up running out of time for them.

I am not sure where we are up to in the Knesset with the taxation law on NGOs, which could hit 80% of foreign funding of NGOs. In our own Parliament today, it is very welcome that we are finally taking steps to stop British charities funding settlements, but what is happening with that law? Has it come through and had

Could you give us an update on the work of UNRWA in the region?
