14 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryThank you to everyone who took the time to speak to our candidates and members on the doorstep over the campaign period. Our Liberal Democrat councillors will always listen to the concerns of the community, and will continue to stand up for what matters most to you.
14 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryOn Huntingdonshire District Council the we have overtaken the Conservatives to become the largest party on the council. We won 20 seats, and the Conservatives now sit on 15. Reform UK won 10 seats, Independent candidates won 4, the Green Party won 2 seats and the Labour Party won one.
14 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryWithin St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, we made 10 gains and held 14 seats. More widely, the Liberal Democrats held control of South Cambridgeshire District Council, winning 43 seats. The Conservatives won the remaining two.
14 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryThe dust is now beginning to settle on a very busy election period. Across the country, we Liberal Democrats are on a record winning streak as voters reject the politics of hatred and division in favour of positive change and genuine community action.
7 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryJust cast my vote for the Lib Dems in today’s local elections! 🔶 🗳️ Polls are open until 10pm. Across St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, your vote really does matter. Democracy matters. Please make your voice heard!
30 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredEveryone has the right to feel safe in their community and live without fear - no matter their identity. I will continue to do all I can to stand up for that right.
30 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredWe must do more to tackle extremism and hatred; through calling out antisemitism wherever we see it, and through a national Government action plan to eradicate it.
30 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingempatheticI am grateful to our emergency services for their response and for quickly apprehending the suspect, and to the brave members of the community who intervened.
30 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingempatheticYesterday's antisemitic attack in Golders Green was deeply disturbing, and my thoughts are with the victims, their families and to the entire Jewish community.
22 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredA government that won't account for its decisions can't be held to them. And a government that can't be held to its decisions will keep making the same mistakes. Letting accountability and explanation slip undermines trust, and the public deserve far better.
22 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentsarcasticOn Monday, the Prime Minister stood in the House of Commons for nearly two and a half hours, and said on at least 12 occasions that appointing Peter Mandelson as US Ambassador was an “error of judgment”. Not once in those two hours, however, did he tell us what his error of judgment actually was.
21 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredThe teams also work with other community-based charities and organisations to support people experiencing homelessness, disability and health issues, and disadvantaged children and young people.
21 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredThe RRT’s role in the UK is to provide hot food and drinks to the emergency services when they are involved in operations supporting the public – this has included the Grenfell Tower fire; Huntingdon train attack; terrorist attacks in London and many more across the country.
21 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredThe RRT is a worldwide network of volunteers supporting emergency service workers during disasters and crisis situations, as well as supporting the public through a range of services and initiatives.
16 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredOur independent businesses are already fighting to survive rising costs and business rates, they shouldn't have to worry about shoplifting too.
16 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingempatheticResidents of Fenstanton will know shop owner Amit, pictured with me outside Ash's Shop, and will have experienced the hugely positive impact he has on the community. Hearing that he struggled to get support when he was attacked by shoplifters in his shop is just not good enough.
16 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredCambridgeshire is already one of the lowest-funded police forces in the country because the Government’s funding formula uses out of date population data which is over a decade old. We are being short-changed and I will continue to press this point to the Government.
16 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingangryThat means 3 in 4 four shoplifters are walking away with no consequences – the message to every would-be thief is that the odds are in their favour. We need the Govt to fund police resources focused on communities & times this crime is happening, & a criminal justice system that follows through.
16 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingangryI was appalled to see figures revealed today that show shoplifting in Cambridgeshire has nearly tripled in five years and yet only one in four cases results in a charge.
15 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredMy team and I have taken up a number of personal cases on behalf of both infected and affected people - please do get in touch with me at ian.sollom.mp@parliament.uk if you are impacted and feel you need support.
15 Apr 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredWe understand that getting full compensation to everyone impacted takes time, but transparency and honesty through that process is vital to prevent further harm.
15 Apr 2026Social CareangryFor the Minister to simply brush them off as being on the prioritisation list - when still no one in the cohort has received a single payment to date - is simply not good enough.
15 Apr 2026Social CareempatheticMany people in this group are seriously unwell and living with advanced disease, and people are dying while waiting for the support they and their families need.
15 Apr 2026Social CareempatheticThese people have waited decades for redress, and the sense of helplessness and inequality they are feeling now about having lost out on years of interim support is only causing further harm.
15 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredAt yesterday's statement on the work of the Infected Blood Compensation Authority, I specifically raised the case of people whose infection was not within the original eligibility criteria for the scheme, and who have consequently not received any interim compensation or support from the Government.
15 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredAt every opportunity, I am continuing to push the Government for fair and full compensation for everyone impacted by the Infected Blood Scandal.
7 Apr 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryAlongside these sessions, the CDA also has a Befriending Scheme and community groups to help deaf people feel connected, confident, and heard. And they are always looking for volunteers! You can find out more via cambsdeaf.org
7 Apr 2026Health & NHScelebratory No need to book an appointment - just turn up for a cup of tea and a chat while your hearing device is fixed. You can find out the locations and times via this link: cambsdeaf.org/hearing-help/
7 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThe Hearing Help service is free and provides assistance with repairs, battery changes, and general maintenance to help ensure devices work properly.
7 Apr 2026Health & NHScelebratoryAnd now the CDA has added more sessions to its Hearing Help services across the county - including in St Neots, Cambourne, Bar Hill, Histon and Girton.
