30 Mar 2025 Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (Transfer of Functions etc) Bill [Lords]

I take the right hon. Gentleman’s point about creating parity between academic and technical education. Would a useful step in the direction of attracting people into the apprenticeship scheme be to ensure that they are paid the national minimum wage in line with their age group?

26 Mar 2025 UK-China Relations

To answer the question from the hon. Member for Farnham and Bordon, 35% of China’s energy is renewable energy, which is up from 0% 15 years ago. By the end of this decade, given the rate at which it is expanding, China will be responsible for 60% of the globe’s renewable energy production.

The China audit was due to be published earlier this year. I understand it is now slated for the summer. Will the Minister take this opportunity to confirm when it will be published? Will she also, moreover, confirm that the Foreign Secretary will appear before the Foreign Affairs Committee to answer questions about it

25 Mar 2025 Nutrition for Growth Summit

It is a pleasure to serve under your chairship, Ms Jardine. I congratulate the right hon. Member for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale (David Mundell) on securing this important debate. Malnutrition is one of the greatest barriers to health, economic growth and development worldwide. It contributes to nearly half

24 Mar 2025 Planning and Infrastructure Bill

Like my hon. Friend, I have two chalk streams in my constituency. Does she agree that making water companies statutory consultees in any future developments will ensure provision of the infrastructure that is required, so that no more pollution goes into our chalk streams?

20 Mar 2025 Coastal Communities

I am afraid I will not, because I am very keen for my hon. Friend the Member for North Norfolk to have time to wind up. Digital exclusion remains a pressing issue. Many coastal businesses and residents lack reliable broadband and mobile connectivity, impacting everything from emergency response times to economic opport

20 Mar 2025 Coastal Communities

I congratulate my hon. Friend the Member for North Norfolk (Steff Aquarone) on securing the debate—although, on a beautiful day like this, I am sure I am not the only one pining for the beach. Great Britain is an island nation with a proud maritime history. Coastal communities are central to our cultural identity, our

That feeds back into what you were saying about the cuts to ODA: in reality, it is difficult to find the link between cause and effect. There is no way of saying, “If I increase ODA by 3%, I get x back in inward investment.”

18 Mar 2025Foreign Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 791)

I want to return to something you said, Mr McClory. Both of you have been talking about the benefits of soft power, but I am wondering how we actually measure it. Are there tangibles? Are there palpable metrics that we can look at?

I accept the points both of you have made, but in terms of the policy success you are talking about, are there trends? If there is not empirical data, are there trends on, “If you do this, this is the real-world benefit you get,” which we can see as a model, looking globally, to say “If a country pursues this soft powe

18 Mar 2025Topical Questions

In the recent advice for its seventh carbon budget, the Climate Change Committee highlighted the urgency of ensuring cheaper electricity so that households can transition away from gas heating. When will the Government act to improve energy security and reduce costs for the households seeking to adopt low-carbon heatin

18 Mar 2025Carbon Capture and Storage

The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change has made it clear that by 2050, we need to be removing 10 billion tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere every year if we are to stand a chance of keeping below the 1.5° target. It is clear that carbon removal, and not just carbon capture and storage, will play a critical ro

18 Mar 2025 Shipyards: Economic Growth

It is a pleasure to serve under your chairship, Ms Jardine. I congratulate the hon. Member for Glenrothes and Mid Fife (Richard Baker) on securing this debate. Dorset does not enjoy the kind of large shipyards that the hon. Member outlined, but the marine industry is vital to Dorset’s economy. It generates £483 million

There is also the purity issue around this, when it comes to the DRC’s minerals. Cobalt and copper—they have a purity that is unrivalled anywhere else in the world. That is their value.

But I am wondering what the size of the M23 is.
