10 Sept 2025Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 1212)

Do you think there still needs to be some measure of excluding it from built-up areas though, given that there is always some radiological risk?

EN–7 retains the Semi Urban Population Density Criterion, but evidence we have taken from the industry calls it outdated and a barrier to new nuclear. Should it be kept, removed or updated? I will start with Julia.

8 Sept 2025Hydrogen Supply Chains

It is an honour to serve under your chairship, Mr Betts. I thank the hon. Member for Rushcliffe (James Naish) for securing the debate, and his able substitute, the hon. Member for Worcester (Tom Collins), for opening it. With good access to offshore wind resources, the UK is ideally placed to scale up green hydrogen pr

8 Sept 2025Critical Infrastructure Funding: Maintenance and Repair

The weight limit imposed on the M48 Severn bridge due to the deterioration of its supporting cables is having a big impact on local businesses and farmers who work on both sides of the Severn. National Highways estimates that it would cost up to £600 million to repair the bridge, with restrictions only postponing the i

8 Sept 2025Hydrogen Supply Chains

I thank my hon. Friend for her intervention, and I am grateful for the support of the wider south-west mafia. Hydrogen UK has reported that unlocking storage infrastructure investment is urgently needed as the sector could require 3.4 TWh of large-scale hydrogen storage by 2030, which could increase to 9.8 TWh by 2035.

8 Sept 2025 Neurodivergent People: Employment

3 Sept 2025 Business of the House

During recess, at an event to promote the new Avon and Somerset victim service, concerns were raised with me about the delay in publishing a new hate crime action plan for England and Wales to replace the one that expired in 2020. Will the Leader of the House tell us when a new plan will be published? If not, will she

3 Sept 2025Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 734)

A quick question for Rebecca. You said that when you select them people say, “Well, we don’t know enough” and climate change is seen as a science issue. Does the wider feeling for many people that they do not understand science feed into it, and is there a reframing that would help people get their heads around it bett

3 Sept 2025Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 734)

My concern was more that it was putting people off if they feel they do not understand that you are coming at it from all these different angles. If they see it as a science issue and they fear science more generally, does that put people off engaging in the issue. But maybe we will move on.

I should just say, Chair, that I am hosting that report launch tomorrow, just for clarity.

If I could start with Bob on this one, because you have already mentioned credible messengers. Who do you think those credible messengers are that the Government could deploy to counter attacks? I am thinking particularly on the energy transition as opposed to the climate crisis itself. How should their impact be evalu

You mentioned Ofgem and the Climate Change Committee as being people who should be helping the public to understand things. Do you think the public see them in that light?

Rebecca, did you have anything to add on the subject of messengers?

So you would not support local business leaders, for example, as being useful messengers in this?

3 Sept 2025Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 734)

If I can get quick answers to a final question from me. Do people link climate change concerns with policies labelled as “energy transition” or “net zero”? Do they see that link?

Stephanie, what behavioural interventions have proven most effective in shifting public attitudes towards low-carbon technologies, and how can those be scaled nationally?
