21 May 2026MP & ParliamentangryListening to PMQs yesterday I was appalled to hear how Karl Turner MP was treated by the Labour whipping machine. Turning mental health into a stick to beat its MPs with when they refuse to follow orders is not OK.
21 May 2026EnvironmentangryRemember this shocking national security assessment, only released thanks to an FoI, warning of ecosystem collapse? That was only the summary. The government still won't release the full report, not even on a confidential basis to MPs on the Environmental Audit Committee.
20 May 2026EnvironmentmeasuredWe welcome any information that can help us on the Environmental Audit Committee to do that job.
20 May 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredThis enquiry will be a moment to hold the Government to account on its economic policy objective, which included a commitment to “accelerate the transition to a climate resilient, nature positive and net zero economy.”
20 May 2026EnvironmentmeasuredWe all know that how economists incorporate, or ignore, the value of nature & the costs of pollution has a knock-on impact on decisions & who benefits from them. When the chancellor supports more oil and gas extraction in the form of ‘tie-backs’ it's clear that balance is off.
20 May 2026EnvironmentmeasuredI'm a member of the Environmental Audit Committee. Right now, one thing we're examining is the role the Treasury and their thinking plays in shaping the UK’s response to climate change & sustainability - and we’re accepting submissions👇 🧵…
19 May 2026Energy & Net ZeroangryBy forcing a vote on oil & gas the Tories are wasting valuable time that should be spent working cross-party to plan for the energy transition & future-proofing jobs. There is no future in fossil fuels. Pretending otherwise fails workers, billpayers & the next generation.
19 May 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThe work @theloopuk.bsky.social does is a key example of an effective harm reduction intervention that should be a common public health approach and incorporated into a national drugs policy.
19 May 2026Health & NHSmeasuredI also learned how to administer naloxone, in case I ever come across someone who's overdosed as a result of taking an opiate (heroin, nitazenes), knowingly or otherwise.
19 May 2026Health & NHScelebratory@theloopuk.bsky.social are a great example of a practical, progressive, public-health approach to drugs; collecting valuable data on what's actually in the drugs people are buying (often more potent/not what they thought it was) and feeding that into potentially life-saving early warning systems.
19 May 2026Health & NHSmeasuredHave you heard of @theloopuk.bsky.social ? I met their team in Bristol - at the only Home Office- licensed regular drug-checking service in the UK - to learn more about the work they are doing to reduce drug-related harms.
19 May 2026Jobs & EmploymentcelebratoryWe know giving trade union reps statutory rights delivers real change, as shown by the success of health & safety reps in reducing serious injury rates. I'm glad cross-party MPs backed my motion in March calling for these rights for future-proofing jobs reps 🙏
19 May 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredThe Government must use the Energy Independence Bill to give workers a seat at the table as workplaces adapt to the climate, nature, and cost-of-living crises. That's why I'm asking Ed Miliband to grant statutory rights to trade union future-proofing reps.
18 May 2026ImmigrationmeasuredIt was a pleasure to meet Mohammed, a Palestinian student whose case I took to the Home Office after the devastation in Gaza made taking up his @bristoluni.bsky.social scholarship incredibly difficult. It should not take an MP intervention to do this. We must do better for the next cohort.
14 May 2026Housing & PlanningangryAlthough the Renters’ Rights Act is a move in the right direction, without serious action to address unaffordability of rents it’s not enough. I know people are still going to be forced out of their homes by uncontrolled price hikes. This has to stop. We need rent controls now.
14 May 2026Housing & PlanningempatheticOn average, renters in Bristol spend 57% of their income on rent. To see that statistic emerge in real-time as dots on a graph really stung. Especially speaking to the many students who are paying more than 100% of their income on rent (we needed a bigger graph 🤯!)
14 May 2026Housing & Planningempathetic‘Cost of Rent Day’ in England fell on Monday, representing when the average tenant has earned enough to cover their annual rent. Renting in this country is out of control. Our makeshift graph after an afternoon of talking to renters in Bristol told a sorry story…
13 May 2026MP & ParliamentsarcasticStarmer just described his government as an "activist Labour party" 🤔 #KingsSpeech
12 May 2026Housing & PlanningangryRenting in Britain is broken. While the Labour government tears itself apart I have written to Steve Reed, alongside our two new Green Mayors @zoegarbett.bsky.social & @liamshrivastava.bsky.social , to ask him to listen to those who voted for change last week and to introduce rent controls now.
8 May 2026ImmigrationcelebratoryBristol has so many amazing charities supporting refugees. I visited one this week. These volunteers provide clothing and other items for people who were forced to leave everything behind, and have created an amazing community space too. It makes me proud to be a Bristolian.
8 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryYesssss @zoegarbett.bsky.social!!! You've been working so hard for this. So well deserved 💚 (And cue even more people getting the two of us confused I reckon, now that you're going to get more well known 😅 - I used to have a pink undercut once, maybe it's time for a reprise in your honour!)
6 May 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredI hope that my fellow MPs and other policymakers engage with this week – it’s vital they understand not just the inequalities that trans people have always faced, but also the many ways that trans people have contributed to cultural, scientific and social progress.
6 May 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryTrans+ History Week is so important. It gives us all a chance to expand our minds, and reassess what we call ‘traditionalʼ or ‘normalʼ. I am so proud to represent my trans constituents and to get the chance to hear their stories and experiences day to day in my work.
6 May 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredThis week is @transhistoryweek.com - a great time to reflect on the fact that - contrary to what you might think from the current toxic debate - trans people have always existed, across all ages and cultures🏳️‍⚧️🧵 www.transhistoryweek.com/latest/thw20...
5 May 2026Housing & PlanningcelebratoryWe had a record breaking year for building affordable homes in Bristol in 2025, and many more are on the way. I’m so proud of my colleagues on Green-led Bristol City Council. Having a Green in the room makes a difference. @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social 💚🏡
4 May 2026Health & NHSangryReform keep making abhorrent announcements to attempt to distract voters from the fact they want to privatise our NHS, roll back worker's rights and hand out tax breaks to their billionaire backers. Want a party focused on solutions, not scapegoating? join.greenparty.org.uk
1 May 2026Jobs & EmploymentcelebratoryAn honour to share the stage with speakers from @unison.org.uk @unitetheunion.bsky.social @bma.org.uk @utaw.tech & more at the launch of the Green Workers' Charter ✊🏻 Tonight we renewed our commitment to restore collective power - so we can win a greener and fairer future for everyone 💚
1 May 2026Housing & Planningmeasured….as well as webinars running today from @generationrent.bsky.social. www.generationrent.org/renters-righ...
1 May 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredWhile I keep pushing for rent controls, I want to make sure all my constituents know exactly what today’s changes mean. There are some brilliant resources from the #WeRentCampaign which you can access at we-rent.org.uk …
1 May 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredToday the new Renters’ Rights Act comes into force. This is a big step forward. But without rent controls a huge number of private renters will continue to be priced out of their homes by spiralling rents. I will never stop fighting for secure and affordable housing for all 🧵...
