25 May 2026Energy & Net ZerocelebratoryBoth the heat pump issue and the hotel levy are on their way to being sorted :-)
18 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredGovernment policy (which I support) is to get the UK’s car industry back to 1m+ units made here, by attracting a new volume manufacturer - there is nothing low end about EV manufacturing
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredThen why’s it citing automotive?
17 May 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredI meant the borough of Sandwell / the Black Country more widely, chock full of former industrial sites - no, you won’t get permission to build on Sandwell Valley!
17 May 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredGood thing we have just launched BICS then
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredHow about at the junction of the M6 and M5 in a region renowned for manufacturing with a Mayor and CA able to focus the FE offer onto the right skills
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredIt doesn’t - but the jobs it creates are higher value roles with chances to progress, and they add large numbers of additional jobs in local services and the supply chain. Any prosperity in places like mine is welcome for both the direct and the knock-on effects.
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredOne of the questions I shall be asking the participants in Labour’s coming Battle of Ideas (tm) is what they intend to do about reindustrialisation and what their growth prescription is for areas like mine
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredThis in response to @dsmitheconomics.bsky.social who in fairness says some things I completely agree with about construction and trades jobs, and better service jobs
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredWe have the right strategy in the Industrial Strategy - and a year in some of the underpinnings like help with energy costs and transformation of the supply chains to is coming through Plus - the right place to locate these jobs is in industrial areas where people want them
17 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredAn easy slur that prioritising manufacturing is “nostalgia” Advanced manufacturing is a massive share of our exports and almost half our R&D spend. It’s 2.6m jobs and over 70k vacancies. In a world of reshoring supply chains, green energy, EVs and aerospace, manufacturing should grow
14 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryPleased and relieved to see this confirmation of what we all knew. Angela was a brilliant deputy leader and MHCLG sec. Looking forward to seeing her back in the Cabinet very soon.
13 May 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredAbsolutely. Similar for me: both Tipton and Wednesbury have great transport links and some high quality new homes at higher densities would really help with footfall and market size locally
13 May 2026OthercelebratoryThis is absolutely wonderful news, so many congratulations Sunder! The precipitous decline in effectiveness of the EHRC in recent years continues to reverse under its excellent new chair and with this appointment
13 May 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredIt is very geographically concentrated in Sandwell - in a ward that borders Birmingham, in a very Muslim ward where their Gaza position was persuasive, and in a ward where the popular and effective Tory councillor defected and restood as a Green
9 May 2026EducationangrySandwell Send parents should be worried too
8 May 2026Local GovernmentdefensiveWe are not going anywhere. Our party has been the hope of the working class for 130 years. This is a setback - but we will be back out talking to residents and fighting for our ends tomorrow. Next year we will take them on again. We were second across the constituency: only Labour can beat Reform
8 May 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredReform now have a majority on Sandwell. I will watch them like a hawk. This last generation of Labour councillors rebuilt our public services somehow through 14 years of austerity - we still incredibly have 22 libraries - they had better not squander what we leave them
8 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryI am delighted Paul and Amardeep were re-elected, and that Sue carries on in Coseley.
8 May 2026Local GovernmentempatheticOn a personal level, I will miss our brilliant councillors who lost - not for the lack of work. They helped put Sandwell back on its feet after the bad years. Thank you Luke, Nic, Pete, Terry, Simon, Liz, Jenny, Kulwant, Syeda, Sahdaish, Soyfur, Archer and Dave.
8 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryThe wonderful @amardeepsingh.bsky.social has his held his Sandwell council seat on this side of West Brom in my constituency, alongside our fab deputy leader Paul Moore. Commiserations to new candidate Jayne who just missed out
7 May 2026Local GovernmentangryTomorrow you COULD wake up to a Reform led council in Sandwell... 😮 Chaos, division and incompetence 👎 Only Labour can beat Reform in Sandwell 🌹 Use all 3 of your votes for Labour to stop Reform right here in Sandwell 🗳️
7 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredTactical vote to stop Reform in Sandwell is Labour.
7 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratorySo proud of our 22 Labour candidates across Tipton, Wednesbury and Coseley. Thank you for standing up for what we believe in, for proudly defending our vision for our towns and our neighbours. Polls open in half an hour. Today, vote for hope and for unity Vote Labour 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌹⛓️
6 May 2026EducationdefensiveThe aim is to make sure every child can achieve and thrive. The continual misrepresentation of a genuine reform effort does opponents no credit at all.
6 May 2026EducationmeasuredI am not familiar with this legal challenge - but one can hardly fail to be aware of the many lobby groups for whom any attempt to improve the system seems never to be enough. I don’t think the majority of parents are opposed either. They need reassurance about their own kids, which is fair enough
6 May 2026EducationdefensiveI don’t see that at all. There is a huge proper consultation going on - which follows more than a year of policy development with experts and parents. Because you don’t agree with some of it doesn’t mean it’s not thoughtful or that there isn’t room to improve it
6 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredI’ll help with this one, since the Sandwell suggestions are still pending. If you don’t want Reform in Sandwell, vote Labour in every ward. Lib Dems, Greens, Tories, indies - all out of the running here.
6 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryIn Sandwell we are fighting Reform. It's just us and them - not complicated. If you have an hour to spare, come join us. I promise fighting the good fight, new friends and plenty of samosas. DM me if you can make it. 25 mins from Birmingham New St on the metro // J9 of the M6.
6 May 2026EducationmeasuredI am surprised you say that - can you not see eg on rights of appeal? And I happen to think excellence and inclusion don’t compete, but that view is not universally held
